Successful DHAROHAR'12

SPICMACAY, Pantnagar chapter successfully conducted the annual cultural fest of G.B.P.U.A.T - 'DHAROHAR' from 16th to 18th February, 2012. All the events marked another milestone of success infused with our culture. Participation was truly appreciable and showcased immense talent. The following were the events organised during DHAROHAR'12.
1)JHANAK
   The cold weather did nothing to dampen the atmosphere of the event. The auditorium was filled with spellbound spectators. The participants displayed their enthusiasm, energy and will to be the winners to the highest level. Dancers grooved in the theme ‘contrast’ and showcased their excellent dance form like bharata natyam, comtemporary, punjabi dance and free style and many more. Each routine was choreographed to perfection and executed just as well as accompanied by the defending cheers of their admirers.
 2)RAAGA
   The annual music competition for budding stars commenced on the third day of DHAROHAR. Participation was commendable with participants from different colleges in the categories of classical, semi-classical and Hindi. In order to become the chieftain, some participants included the timbre of tabla and casio to beautify their singing. For the first time in DHAROHAR, duet category for singing was introduced. The panel of judges enjoyed and appreciated the singing of the participants.
3)MEHFIL
   The artist evening has always mesmerised and captivated the audience. It imparts real ethnicity to the fest. This time in DHAROHAR, the artist night was graced by magnificent Sarangi player Ustad Kamal Sabri accompanied on ‘Tabla’ by Shri Sukhmoy Banerjee. The jugal-bandi of tabla and ‘Sarangi’ brought melodious vibrant waves in the environment and made the huge crowd experience each and every note of pure Indian classical music.
 4)AHWAAL
   Thoughts are best expressed in the form of acting on stage. The actors took advantage of this opportunity to show their emotions during the drama fest. The participants took it as a challenge and tried to bring out various shades of life in it. It contained categories like skit, mime and mono act. Mime and skit were showcasing the team efforts whereas the mono act was solely an individual fight. The panel of judges was moved by the efforts and skills of the competitors and they offered them their wonderful guidance.
 5)ANTARBODH
   For the first time in DHAROHAR'12, Antarbodh, the debate competition, was organised in both Hindi and English. It witnessed overwhelming participation from the university students. It proved to be a wonderful platform for both the spectators and the judges.
 6)PARIVESH
   Serving an opportunity to employ their energies productively in the field of creativity, this DHAROHAR the theme for the ethnic ramp show was 'Let your roots become your wings'. Students brimming with enthusiasm toiled hard in coterie to set ablaze the stage by blending vivacious hues, fabrics and reusable material incorporating little nuances of our environment in those very attires. Models carrying innovative costumes mesmerised the audience and gave DHAROHAR a new dimension altogether.
 7)VIGYAPTI
   A social change is brought about by thinkers but this thinking needs to be expressed through some medium. Every year DHAROHAR gives these leaders a platform to express their views in Vigyapti, the social paper presentation. Social, political or spiritual topics are taken to bring upon a change in the society. The event was able to pop out many burning issues to the lime light. Indeed it fulfilled the aim of promoting awareness.
 8)JHAROKHA
   The only movie fest of Pantnagar University was organised by SPIC MACAY. An opportunity for the students to witness a prime time show...a well deserved break from the mundane student life- JHAROKHA comes as a welcome treat.
 9)ROOBAROO
   Not just the participants but the audience was also very enthusiastic and interactive in the most awaited Personality hunt contest of Pantnagar. The rounds of Roobaroo had everything that makes up a perfect personality: creativity, imagination, spontaneity, energy, humour, eloquence and innovation. Roobaroo was a perfect treat for the audience to watch, hear and interact among their peer group.
 10)VAIVIDHYA
   To unleash the talent on the grounds of creativity DHAROHAR'12, SPIC MACAY organised events like kite flying, best out of waste, Mehendi, Rangoli, Sketching and Painting in Gandhi grounds under the open sky. Students participated with great zeal to bring to light their hidden talents...shedding all inhibitions, overpowered by the festive aura that prevailed throughout.

With the ceaseless efforts of the Chapter members, the Staff Counsellor, and the University Administration, and amalgamated with the patronage of the dozens of Indian classical dance and music forms, the Pantnagar Chapter of SPIC MACAY has had the opportunities to witness some of the greatest living exponents of the traditional Indian art forms. It is our endeavor to help disseminate the best of the Indian classical heritage with its attendant legends, rituals, mythologies and philosophies to young students and professionals.
